Indie jewellery retailer creates unique gold ‘Key Ring’ for new ITVX series

Posted on in Business News

Bristol and Cirencester-based bespoke fine jewellery retailer Titcombe Bespoke Jewellery, a member of the National Association of Jewellers, has received one of its most unusual commissions – to create a unique 22ct yellow gold ‘Key Ring’ requested by the team behind the new ITVX television series, The Winter King.

Set in the 5th century, The Winter King is based on the Warlord Chronicles series of books by Bernard Cornwell, which draw inspiration from Arthurian myths and legends. The series will star Iain De Caestecker (The Control Room, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Arthur Pendragon, alongside Eddie Marsan (The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, Deceit) as High King Uther.

When the series began filming in Wales and the West Country in 2022, Titcombe Bespoke Jewellery was approached to craft a striking ‘Key Ring’ in gold, which would prominently feature on the little finger of leading actor Eddie Marsan. Early indications suggest this unusually shaped signet-style ring plays an important role in the storytelling.

In a nod to history and ancient metalsmithing techniques, the ring was cast to have a slightly textured and organic finish. To achieve the production company’s desired look, Titcombe Bespoke Jewellery’s master goldsmith, Tom Wightman, created the piece personally from more than 60 grams of gold. The ring was sandbox cast in-house in two parts to achieve the 5th-century look, requiring just over 12 hours to complete.

Titcombe Bespoke Jewellery chief executive Mark Smith comments,

“It is always exciting to receive a bespoke jewellery commission from a TV production company, especially one that is creating a TV series about ancient British legends on local soil! We are thrilled to represent Bristol by creating this unique 22ct ring, which I hope will unlock some treasures on the television show when it airs later this month.”

When it’s not producing faux-Arthurian treasures, Titcombe Bespoke Jewellery specialises in fine jewellery for clients up and down the country, including engagement rings, wedding bands, wedding day jewellery and eternity rings. It also offers a range of ready-to-wear pieces, such as earrings and necklaces set with coloured gemstones and diamonds.

All its jewellery is designed, made and set in the United Kingdom and is stamped with the trusted ‘Created in the UK’ mark, alongside traditional hallmarks, to signify its place of origin.

The Winter King will premiere on December 21 in the UK on ITVX.
